Algebra Activity Today
Today we simulated a marine biologist and used sampling to determine how many fish were in a lake. We used goldfish in a paper bag and tagged fish by trading in colored goldfish. Then each pair of students used a "net" to capture fish and counted the tagged number of fish and the total number in the catch and recorded their results. In the end we used proportions to determine how many fish were in our lakes. See notes from the lesson here.

First Day a Success!
The first day of school went very well for all students and it was so good to see everyone! We discussed expectations, required materials, and did a little group work. I will be handing out the syllabus for the courses in a couple days so we can get the students situated. Here are some photos I took today of students making Bloxes.

Don't forget the Math binders, or Math section in a large binder, separated with tabs and a pencil box to be kept in class.

It's Back to School Time!!!
Wesley and I want to say Welcome!

I hope everyone is as excited about coming back to school as I am! Don't forget the first day of school is August 16th at 8am sharp!
There are a few new things happening in my class, first is that I am requiring all students to have a binder for Math and dividers. This way students can keep track of their work and stay organized. Also, students need a pencil box that will store a calculator, pencil, erasers, ruler, and a highlighter to be kept in the classroom. This way they will always be prepared! There's a couple pencil boxes that I really like at Target that come in either pink or green for only $.80.
Lastly, my rewards program is being called "Reach for the Stars", where every student will have the chance to become a Star Student! Details will be discussed in class and in the syllabus.
See you soon!
